Platter 5-Star Tasting
On Monday November 28th Wines of South Africa organized a Platter’s 5* tasting in Amsterdam. The venue was the trendy cookbook shop of Mevrouw Hamersma Kookboekwinkel (home to the well-known journalist Harold Hamersma and his wife, Karin).
Around 25 sommeliers, trade and media attended the exclusive event.
Overall the tasters were very pleased with the high quality and selection – although there were a few comments that some of the chenin blancs on offer were a little over-wooded. The trend here is toward lighter “purer” style wines with less oak. In that regard the lighter style red wines were highly appreciated as a new trend.
South Africa is increasingly acknowledged amongst media and sommeliers in The Netherlands for the improvement in quality over the past years and more and more premium South African wines are being sold in the market and listed with high-end restaurants.
